Peter Knight, MD

Peter A. Knight, MD is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Knight, a board-certified cardiac surgeon, is the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Rochester.

Knight completed his Bachelor of Science in Physics at Dickinson College and his MD from New York Medical College. He completed his General Surgery Residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital & Medical Center and his Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Knight is a member of multiple professional associations, including the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgeons, the American Heart Association, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the European Association of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

As an educator and leader, Knight has been awarded the Marjorie B. Morris Endowed Professorship in Cardiac Surgery and is currently serving in the Dr. Jude S. Sauer Family Distinguished Professorship in Cardiac Surgery. Knight has also been recognized for his clinical excellence, including winning the American Heart Association/Mitral Foundation Mitral Valve Repair Reference Center award. He has published two book chapters, more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, and an additional 50+ research presentations.
