Mohanakrishnan Sathyamoorthy, MD
Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine
“Dr. Mo” is a board-certified Cardiologist and Professor and founding Chair of the Department of Medicine at the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at TCU. At TCU, he established the Sathyamoorthy Laboratory and currently mentors twenty- four MD candidate research students, two post-doctoral associates, and three undergraduates. His group has made several novel discoveries, identification of numerous, multiple novel genotype to phenotype associations in aneurysmal disorders, which are now being in investigated with transgenic animal models, database derived hypothesis driven studies in numerous cardiovascular disease states, and novel thrombosis research. He is nationally recognized in the field of cardiovascular thrombosis and is frequently invited to lecture on cardiology-related topics both here in the United States and overseas at international meetings. He is a practicing cardiologist and founding president of Consultants in Cardiovascular Medicine and Science in Fort Worth. This comprehensive cardiovascular practice serves patients through personalized clinical care and patient-focused translational research. In 2023, he founded the Fort Worth Institute for Molecular Medicine and Genomics Research to serve as translational science core laboratory resource for the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU, where students and faculty can pursue cutting edge research. He envisions this entity to contribute to the growth of the Fort
Worth Medical Innovation District, for which he is an advisor, and to spur rapid commercial translation of discoveries made in the Institute.
A native of Potsdam, NY, Dr. Mo earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in biomedical and mechanical engineering (biomechanics) at Johns Hopkins University, followed by a MD with distinction in research at the State University of New York Stony Brook where he was honored with the Citizenship Award and Award for Excellence in Research at commencement. During his time at Stony Brook he was selected as one of 15 students nationally into the on-campus NIH Research Scholars’ program, where he pursued functional immunogenomics research under the mentorship of a prominent cancer immunology investigator and member of the National Academy of Sciences. He was subsequently named a Harrison Society Scholar and trained as a physician-scientist in the ABIM research pathway at Vanderbilt University in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine. After serving as Chief Fellow in Cardiovascular Medicine and completing his post- doctoral research fellowship with a prominent thrombosis investigator, he joined the faculty as a physician-scientist after obtaining his first round NIH funding. He developed a research program that studied the effect of molecular manipulation of fibrinolytic genes on cellular migration, taught the course in anticoagulant, antiplatelet, and fibrinolytic pharmacology in the Vanderbilt School of Medicine, and served as a Harrison service teaching attending. He and his family moved to Fort Worth in 2009 to get closer to their extended family in Texas.
Dr. Sathyamoorthy is a highly-peer recognized and honored physician in North Texas, having been named a US News and Report top physician, Castle Connelly top 1% physician, Best In Texas, nominated to Who’s Who publications, and appearing in all local peer-ranked best physicians lists including 360 West, Fort Worth Magazine, and Dallas Luxury Lifestyles. Apart from his roles at the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU and leading his practice, Dr. Sathyamoorthy has served in numerous medical executive leadership roles in Fort Worth. These have included Chief of Staff at Baylor All Saints, founding Medical Director of Cardiology for the Baylor Heart Vascular Hospital in Fort Worth, and board member for the Baylor Scott and White Quality Alliance ACO. He served an extended term as President of the Tarrant County AHA Board and has served on the Fort Worth Opera Advisory Board and Executive Board of Fort Worth Academy. He and his wife, Heather, are committed to supporting the performing arts, enjoy collecting art, have two teenage children, a whippet terrier (Bo), and are proud to make their home in Fort Worth.
