Mahesh Ramchandan, MD

Dr. Mahesh Ramchandani is a cardiovascular surgeon at the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center in Houston, TX. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and did his general surgery training at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London. He obtained the Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons in England and moved to Houston in 1989. He completed his cardiothoracic training at Baylor College of Medicine under Dr. Michael E. DeBakey and has remained on staff at Houston Methodist Hospital.
Dr. Ramchandani specializes in minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgery. This includes off-pump (beating heart) surgery and sternum sparing minimally invasive approaches for coronary bypass, aortic valve, & mitral valve surgeries. He has achieved superior outcomes through active research & development of the field. He hosts the Re-Evolution Summit, an annual conference on minimally invasive cardiac surgery, each spring. This is now recognized as one of the premier meetings of its kind in the world.
Dr. Ramchandani is internationally recognized for his work in this field and is a frequent invited speaker at meetings in the USA & abroad. He is co-director of the advanced minimally invasive and structural heart fellowship which is designed for cardiac surgeons who have completed their training. He has initiated and developed cardiac surgery programs at all four satellite hospitals in the Houston Methodist System. As Vice Chair for the system, he oversees quality.
