Ghulum Murtaza, MD, MBA

Dr. Ghulam Murtaza is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with specialized expertise in minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery. He currently serves at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, where he leads initiatives to broaden access to advanced surgical therapies for heart disease.

Dr. Murtaza completed his cardiothoracic surgery training at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His clinical focus includes totally endoscopic robotic surgery, multi-arterial coronary bypass grafting, and valve repair. As part of a select group of surgeons, he is advancing the use of robotic platforms for multi-vessel TECAB and concomitant valve procedures, helping to shape the future of cardiac surgery.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Murtaza frequently lectures nationally and internationally on topics such as robotics, cardiac surgery innovation, and value-based care. He is deeply committed to surgical excellence, compassionate patient care, and the continual advancement of cardiovascular treatments.

Beyond the operating room, Dr. Murtaza enjoys mentoring aspiring physicians, contributing to health policy discussions, and spending quality time with his family through skiing and traveling
