Andrea Amabile, MD

Dr. Andrea Amabile is an integrated cardio–thoracic surgery resident at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
After graduating as valedictorian from medical school and obtaining a Master of Biostatistics in Italy, he joined the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Yale University, where he led the Clinical Outcomes Research Group as a postdoctoral associate (2021–2022) and research faculty (2022–2023).
He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters, with a particular focus on minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery. His work has been presented at national and international conferences, including STS, AATS, EACTS, WTSA, ECTSS, HVS, ACC, and AHA. In 2024, he received the Benson R. Wilcox Award from the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association.
Dr. Amabile is the first trainee invited to sit on the Board of Directors of the InternationalSociety for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS). He also serves on the Residents Committee of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) and is a board member of the Global Thoracic Surgery Residents Association (GTSRA). His previous leadership roles include President of the Junior Researchers Committee of the Association of Italian Surgeons in North America (AISNA) and Secretary of the Yale Italian Society.
Outside of work, he is a classically trained pianist.
