In 2000, I was appointed to a Consultant position in Cardiac Surgery at “Ospedale del Cuore, Fondazione Toscana G. Monasterio”, Massa, Italy.

During this period I have been responsible for all aspects of modern Cardiac Surgery with a specific interest in minimally invasive techniques, including training and proctoring in Italy and Europe.
During the absence of the Head of Department, I have been responsible for the running of the Unit. I am also involved in dealing with inter-departmental relations with particular attention to management skills and the negotiation and management of conflicts.
In the above role I attended the course of the Italian Society for Cardiac Surgery on the subject “The Responsibility of the New Corporate Management and the elements necessary for the management of the Department” Bologna, 27-28 April 2001”.

I have coordinated work groups for the publication of scientific articles.
Furthermore, I have been instrumental in the development and running of the hospital data-base and digital medical records.

July 2010 I was appointed for an initial period of 12 months to a Consultant position in Cardiac Surgery at Imperial College University/Imperial College Trust, Hammersmith Campus, London.
I have been recruited to lead of a specific project to develop minimally invasive mitral and aortic surgery.

1 January 2013 High specialization appointment: development of research and follow up activity on minimally invasive mitral valve repair; supervision for minimally invasive surgery training on junior surgeons; coordination of outpatient activity at Ospedale del Cuore in Massa and Ospedale S.Cataldo in Pisa, both Fondazione Toscana G.Monasterio.

May 2014 I was appointed to a substitute position as Director of Adult Cardiac Surgery Unit “Ospedale del Cuore, Fondazione Toscana G. Monasterio”, Massa, Italy
